🔬 What is BPC-157?

BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic peptide consisting of 15 amino acids that is derived from a protective protein naturally found in human gastric juice. It has been the subject of numerous preclinical studies for its remarkable regenerative and cytoprotective properties across multiple tissue types, including muscles, tendons, ligaments, and the gastrointestinal tract.

BPC-157 is available in pen and freeze-dried vial formulations for research purposes.

📊 Clinical Studies

Interstitial Cystitis Pilot Study (Lee et al., 2024)

A pilot study involving 12 women with moderate to severe interstitial cystitis who had not responded to pentosan polysulfate. The women received intravesical injections of BPC-157 (total of 10 mg) around the area of inflammation.

  • Complete resolution of symptoms after one treatment in 10 of 12 patients (83.3%)
  • The remaining 2 patients rated their success at 80%
  • No adverse events were reported and no one dropped out

Systematic Review – Orthopedic Sports Medicine (2025)

A systematic review of 36 studies (35 preclinical, 1 clinical) from 1993 to 2024 evaluated BPC-157's effects on musculoskeletal injuries.

  • BPC-157 improved functional, structural, and biomechanical outcomes in muscle, tendon, ligament, and bony injuries in preclinical models
  • In a retrospective study, 7 of 12 patients with chronic knee pain reported relief for >6 months following intraarticular BPC-157 injection

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

BPC-157 has shown a desirable safety profile in preclinical studies, with only a few side effects reported following its administration. However, no clinical safety data is available in humans.

  • Mild irritation at injection sites
  • Dizziness or headache (anecdotal)
  • Digestive upset when taken orally

Do not use if you:

  • Are allergic to BPC-157 or any ingredients
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are on blood thinners or immunosuppressants (consult a provider first)
