Sermorelin Research Information

Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH) Analog

For Growth Hormone & Metabolic Research

๐Ÿ”ฌ What is Sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a synthetic 29-amino acid peptide analog of Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH) that acts as a potent secretagogue to stimulate endogenous growth hormone release from the anterior pituitary gland. It contains the full 29-residue N-terminal sequence of natural GHRH, retaining full biological activity.

Sermorelin has a molecular weight of approximately 3,357 Da and a short half-life of 11-12 minutes. It is the shortest synthetic peptide with full biological activity of GHRH. Sermorelin is available in pen and freeze-dried vial formulations for research purposes.

โšก How Sermorelin Works

Sermorelin works through a targeted mechanism to stimulate natural growth hormone release:

๐ŸŽฏ

GHRH Receptor Binding

Binds to GHRH receptors on pituitary somatotroph cells, triggering GH synthesis and release

๐Ÿงฌ

Endogenous GH Release

Stimulates pituitary to release natural growth hormone in a pulsatile pattern

๐Ÿ”„

Pulsatile Signaling

Preserves natural feedback loops and pulsatile secretion pattern

Sermorelin acts like a signal to the pituitary gland, encouraging the body to release its own growth hormone through normal feedback pathways. This is different from taking growth hormone directly, as sermorelin preserves the body's native hormone rhythms and pulsatile secretion patterns. Studies show 30-50% increases in GH secretion within 30 minutes of injection.

๐Ÿ“Š Clinical Studies

Idiopathic Growth Hormone Deficiency (BioDrugs 1999)

  • Once daily subcutaneous sermorelin 30 ฮผg/kg bodyweight at bedtime is effective in treating some prepubertal children with idiopathic growth hormone deficiency
  • Significant increases in height velocity were sustained during 12 months of treatment
  • The effect appears maintained for 36 months of continued treatment
  • Slow growing, shorter children with delayed bone and height age appear to have a good response to treatment

Animal Studies

  • Sermorelin (1 ฮผg/kg, i.v.) increases serum GH levels in rats by approximately 17% compared with saline control after 15 minutes
  • Increases GH release in pigs when administered at a dose of 250 ng/kg
  • Sermorelin (1 ฮผM) increases proliferation of NCI-H727 human bronchial carcinoid cells by 30% and increases VEGF secretion

Combination Therapy (Journal of Urology 2016)

  • A retrospective review of 14 men on combination GHRP/SERM therapy (100 mcg each, 3 times daily) showed significant IGF-1 increases
  • Mean baseline IGF-1: 159.5 ng/ml โ†’ post-treatment: 239 ng/ml (p<0.0001)
  • Mean duration of continuous GHRH/GHRP treatment was 134 days

Clinical Response & Safety Profile

  • Sermorelin typically increases serum IGF-1 within 4-8 weeks of consistent use
  • Studies show 30-50% increases in GH secretion within 30 minutes of injection
  • Maximal effect often requires 2-3 months of consistent use
  • Well tolerated; most common adverse events: transient facial flushing and injection site pain

โš ๏ธ Safety & Precautions

Sermorelin is generally well-tolerated when dosed appropriately. The most common adverse events in clinical trials were transient facial flushing and injection site pain. Unlike synthetic GH, sermorelin does not suppress endogenous GH production or cause IGF-1 overshoot at typical doses.

  • Injection site reactions: Mild erythema, tenderness, or pain at injection site
  • Facial flushing: Transient and commonly reported
  • Headache or dizziness: Occasional and mild
  • Nausea: Rare and mild

Important Safety Considerations:

  • Contraindicated in patients with active malignancy, severe hepatic/renal impairment, and uncontrolled diabetes
  • Long-term safety data beyond 12 months is limited
  • Do not use if allergic to sermorelin or any ingredients
  • Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding

โš ๏ธ Warning: Sermorelin is a growth hormone-releasing hormone analog with limited human safety data. If you experience severe allergic reactions, difficulty breathing, or signs of anaphylaxis, seek immediate medical help.
